Motorhome Rental Tips: Avoid The Most Common Incidents While RV’ing

Safety First! Be sure to always ask questions to ensure you have a great experience and there are no surprises while operating your RV rental.

Tip 1: Concrete Post at the Gas Station
Park as far from the gas pump as you can and allow the hose of the gas pump to extend out while filling up. This will prevent you from clipping the pump barrier as pull away.
Tip 2: Low-Hanging Objects
Make sure that you are aware of the RV’s height clearance and do not attempt to pass under low objects or structures like signs, bridges, or trees to avoid roof damage.
Tip 3: Backing Up
Always use a spotter even if the RV is equipped with a back-up camera. Many incidents that occur at gas stations, parking lots, and campsites can be avoided using a spotter.
Tip 4: Changing Lanes
Make sure to check your mirrors carefully before attempting a lane change. Small vehicles can be difficult to see in the side mirrors.
Tip 5: Tire Blow-Outs
Have the tire pressure checked on the motorhome before departing on your trip. Follow the recommended tire maintenance to help avoid tire blow-outs.
Tip 6: Awnings
Have your rental operator demonstrate the proper way to operate an awning. Awnings must be retracted during storms and high winds to prevent damage to your RV rental.
