2002 RV Business Newsmakers of the Year Named at National RV Trade Event

Gary LaBella, vice president of public relations and advertising for the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA), singled out for his work in administering the national Go Rving Coalition’s market expansion campaign

(Louisville, Ky.) – RV Business had a tough time choosing from a long list of qualified candidates the 2002 RV Business Newsmakers of the Year. The nominees included suppliers, distributors, manufacturers and others who made news and, in the process, greatly impacted the industry and its trade press. The selection process was made more difficult in 2002 because so many RV-related companies contributed to the industry’s tremendous growth during 2002, a year in which the RV sector consistently outpaced the rest of the lagging travel sector. RV Business considered company growth among other factors and, after a lengthy review, selected the following 2002 RV Business Newsmakers of the Year:

  • Bert Alanko, chairman, RVRA, president, MBA Insurance Inc.
  • Brad Albrechtsen, president and CEO, National RV Holdings Inc.
  • Ed Caudill, president and CEO, Fleetwood Enterprises Inc.
  • Tom Frey, president, Workhorse Custom Chassis
  • Paul Skogebo, president, REDEX and Robert Crist and Co.
  • Bruce Hertzke, chairman, president and CEO, Winnebago Industries Inc.
  • Gary LaBella, vice-president, public relations and advertising, Recreation
  • Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA)
  • Marcus Lemonis, chairman and CEO, Holiday RV Superstores Inc.
  • Virgil Miller, chairman, Newmar Corp. (posthumous)
  • John Nepute, president, Monaco Coach Corp.
  • Wade F.B. Thompson, chairman, president and CEO, Thor Industries Inc.

RVIA Vice President Gary LaBella, meanwhile, was recognized above the rest for his work with the industry’s expanding, 7-year-old, Go RVing campaign.

"LaBella was singled out for his efforts year in and year out in keeping the program on track and for tending to the details on a daily basis,” said RV Business publisher Sherman Goldenberg. “And in the case of the Go RVing Coalition, it is the details and the almost constant coordination that helps maintain the professionalism and, ultimately, the impressive unity that has kept the Go RVing campaign growing for seven years. The campaign has created national awareness for the RV lifestyle, and it has demonstrated tremendous results for the industry as a whole.

The 2002 RV Business Newsmakers of the Year will be featured in the January 2003 edition of RV Business.
